We had an activity for our women’s group at church a couple of weeks ago, and one of the classes was about how to make Sour Dough Bread. I now have a starter sitting in my fridge, and we’ll see how that goes!
The teacher who taught this amazing class also made some bread in the slow cooker. That caught my attention for sure since when you cook in a slow cooker, it’s usually pretty simple. And fresh bread from a slow cooker? That sounded amazing. Then she mentioned a recipe for slow cooker bread made with NO yeast and nonfat plain Greek yogurt. What??? That caught my attention for sure. Because anytime you add any type of Greek yogurt to something, you’ve upped the protein factor of that thing.
I found a recipe for this slow cooker bread, and we gave it a try because…why not? It would work or it wouldn’t. But what if it worked?!?! The recipe I found had two ingredients (only two!): Self-rising flour and nonfat plain Greek yogurt. I was sold.
Slow Cooker Two Ingredient Dough Bread Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup self-rising flour (If you don’t have self-rising flour, add 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the cup of regular flour)
- 1 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
Instructions:
- Line slow cooker with parchment paper.
- Combine flour and yogurt in bowl.
- Mix until combined into a ball. It will be kind of sticky.
- Place ball in center of parchment paper in slow cooker.
- Bake on high for 2 hours.
- If desired, broil in oven for 2-4 minutes to brown the top.

I tried this recipe, and we liked it! Although I might’ve broiled it a bit too long. Here are two things to keep in mind:
- This is a quick bread, not a yeast bread, so it won’t rise much. I didn’t have self-rising flour, so I added the baking powder and salt to our flour. Maybe it would rise more with self-rising flour? Either way, it was good!
- The taste is similar to a sour dough bread.
I’m sure there are other slow cooker bread recipes, and I’d like to find some and give them a try. I’m all about anything that’s both easy AND delicious, so slow cooker bread is a winner!
If you give this recipe a try, let me know how it goes, and thank you, The Holy Mess, for this amazing recipe!
