Do you ever have those cravings hit…and you’re not quite sure how to get rid of them? And if you don’t get rid of them, they’ll hang around and get worse. Since I’m a chocolate lover, my cravings usually involve chocolate, and while I totally believe in healthy eating, I also know that moderation is a good thing for any long-term health goals. Occasional treats are key to a healthy life—both mentally and physically.
So here’s one of my favorite macro-friendly treats for your enjoyment—mug cakes! I’ve seen different versions of these on the internet, but here’s my favorite recipe:
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons (1 oz) cake mix (my favorite is Triple Chocolate Fudge, of course)
2 tablespoons water
Directions:
- Spray a microwave-safe mug with cooking spray, then add ingredients and mix well. Cook in microwave on high for 1 minute.
- I also mix in 1/2 tablespoon mini semi-sweet chocolate chips sometimes just because.
- I sometimes add a dollop of whipped cream (aerosol) too, and if I have extra macros or if it’s a refeed day, I might even add some of my new favorite ice cream—Breyer’s Chocolate Truffle—on top. It melts into the mug cake, and…oh my!
- Grab a spoon, and enjoy! And I LOVE it when I hit a clump of melted chocolate…that’s the best!
And if you’re a macro tracker, here are the macros:
- Triple Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix: 105 cals, 1g fat, 22g carbs, 1g protein
- Mini semi-sweet chocolate chips: 35 cals, 2g fat, 4.5g carbs, 0g protein
- Whipped cream (1 tablespoon): 8 cals, .25g fat, .25g carbs, 0g fat
And I’ve been thinking of some other options for this super simple recipe:
- Spice cake mix + white chocolate chips
- Spice cake mix + mini chocolate chips
- Carrot cake mix + white chocolate chips
- Yellow cake mix + white chocolate chips
- Red Velvet + white chocolate chips
- And so many others…
This little mug of chocolaty goodness can fit into my plan, is totally yummy, and conquers that chocolate/sweet craving perfectly!
Enjoy!
