I LOVE cozy blankets. There’s just something about snuggling under a cozy blanket that makes everything right in the world. Add in a good book or movie, and that’s pretty near perfect. And no matter the season, even in the hottest part of the summer, sometimes you just need a cozy blanket.
And evidently I’m not the only one who likes to snuggle up in a cozy blanket. 😉 Our Tyson loves his cozy blankets too! He’s got a double snuggle going on here with his favorite puppy and monster blankets. I wish you could hear him “snoring” in this picture—it was too funny!
I like to make sure our grand babies get a crocheted cozy blanket from grandma when they join our family…gotta’ share the cozy blanket love! And it makes my heart happy to see them snuggle up in grandma’s blanket—it’s one way I can “be” with them when I can’t actually be with them as much as I’d like. I hope they can feel grandma’s love for them through their cozy blankets, and when I can be with them and snuggle up with them in their cozy blanket, you can bet I take advantage of it as much as possible! These are some of the moments I treasure the most as a grandma.
My love for cozy blankets takes on an even greater importance post-surgery. To me, that cozy blanket is a key part of the recovery process for the emotional part alone! And I’ve gotten a new cozy blanket for my last three surgeries.
Hysterectomy (Mother’s Day weekend 2012)
Kam and Kailen (my two amazing daughters) made this blanket for me for my surgery, and this was the beginning of the surgery blanket tradition. It’s a pretty awesome tradition!
Knee Surgery (Mother’s Day weekend 2014)
Kam made this blanket for me and sent it all the way from AZ where she was working at the time for my knee surgery recovery. And two surgeries on Mother’s Day weekend? Ugh.
Tibial Sesamoid Removal Surgery (a few days ago, 2018)
I got this running-themed fleece when I was in Utah a few weeks ago, and I thought, “I have foot surgery in a couple of weeks, and this can be my surgery blanket!” 🙌🏻
Unbeknownst to me, Kam had made this ⬆️ blanket for me even before I got to Utah, and it came in the mail—plus a new book and a sweet note—from her, Steven, and Tyson right after we got home from my surgery on Thursday. I read the book in its entirety (and loved it!) the night of my surgery since my pain meds kept me up all night except for a total of 2 hours. 😴 The blanket is cotton on top and minky on the back, which is perfect for this time of year in Georgia. And that floral fabric? It’s soooo me! The minky is called “Rose Minky,” and it’s kind of hard to see the rose pattern in the picture, but it’s so pretty!
I’m pretty sure this new blanket will help speed up my recovery, and hopefully, I won’t need any new surgery blankets any time soon. But I do love these blankets, especially who they’re from and the kind and loving thoughts behind them.
PS: I’m 19 for 19 on my #septemberjanuary challenge! And I plan on carrying this over into October and beyond. It’s been amazing!!!
PPS: See that machine at my feet in that picture? It’s a cold/compression machine my doctor ordered for me, and I must say, it’s a #gamechanger! I stay plugged into it all day while I’m sitting (since that’s pretty much all I can do), and I’m sure it’s made a huge difference in my pain levels and the recovery process! I wish I’d had one of these after my knee surgery…
