We said good-bye to a member of our family this past week, Penelope—our 18 year-old green minivan, and I must admit that I got a bit teary as we watched her drive off. And it’s still kind of weird to not see her sitting in our driveway.
Penelope, who was named by Kam when she started driving her to high school, joined our family when Kailen was only 18 months old. She survived 4 active kids, took us on many family trips, transported many Young Women to church activities, got us safely to and from many, many, many school activities, transported 3 high schoolers to and from school, got college kids to and from summer jobs, and even though she did have her issues from time to time—as we all do, she really did a good job for us over the years. She survived the humidity of Florida, the dryness and heat of Arizona, and then the humidity of Georgia, all of which can really take a toll on a vehicle. She was good friends with our favorite Goodyear mechanics, and when I told them we were going to need to find her a new home, they said they’d miss seeing her.
We decided to donate Penelope to the Make A Wish Foundation in the hope that she can continue to bless others’ lives, as she has ours for 18 years.
Goodbye, Penelope, you were an awesome minivan!
