When we decided to move to Utah, we knew without a shadow of a doubt that it was the right decision.
Learn more about why we’re moving to Utah here.
But…moving is a huge puzzle with many pieces, and getting those pieces to fit can be super stressful. To say the least.
And while we knew we were making the right decision, that doesn’t necessarily mean that all the puzzle pieces would fall into place easily or even quickly.
Sometimes even the decisions we know are correct are still a trial of our faith.
To say the past few weeks have been stressful would be an understatement.
- Getting our Georgia home ready to put on the market.
- Looking for a Utah home that fits our needs and our budget (Utah’s housing market is quite a bit higher than Georgia’s).
- Figuring out the details of how we were going to make this move work in all the ways that are important both now and into the future.
- And on. And on. And on.
I was talking with our Utah realtor last Friday afternoon after our home inspection, and we were discussing the stresses of moving. I told her we were so grateful that we’d found our Utah home and that everything was falling into place so quickly. I also told her we were putting our Georgia home on the market later that day and that I was stressed about how long it would take it to sell in a slower-than-usual housing market. Because…double house payments are just not fun. At all.
Then she said something that really stuck with me:
“You’re doing the right thing for the right reason. You’re moving here to support your family during a really difficult time. Everything will fall into place quickly.”
To be honest, while I appreciated what she said, part of me was a bit skeptical. This is the fifth home we’ve sold and our 13th move, so we definitely know all of the things that can happen when moving and selling a home.
But…looking back, I can see how right she was. Throughout this moving journey…
- We were lead to an amazing realtor and lender in Utah, which makes the whole home buying process so much easier. (I’m happy to share their contact info!)
- My best friend and realtor in Georgia, Diane, has made the home listing and selling process so easy for us. She’s the best, and I’m so grateful for not only her friendship, but for her help in buying and selling 2 homes while we’ve lived in Georgia the past almost 13 years.
- We had 3 offers on our GA home in less than 48 hours after it was listed, and one offer was as near to being perfect as you can get.
- That nearly perfect offer we got on our Georgia house also has a very quick closing date, which means NO double payments! That’s a huge tender mercy (link) alone.
- And so many other things…
When I told our Utah realtor about what had happened over the weekend with our Georgia house, she said, “See? I told you things would fall into place quickly!”
I don’t want to jinx anything, but in this case, I think the trial of my faith was having faith that things would work out quickly. Quicker than I’d even hoped.
It’s a lesson I hope to not forget anytime soon.
I hope to remember this lesson the next time I’m feeling more stress than faith when faced with a difficult period of my life.
Even and especially when things might not fall into place quite so quickly. And when that happens, I want to remember that God has a plan for me, and while sometimes I don’t understand that plan, it is always the best plan.
So, I’m heading home from Utah on Saturday, 2 1/2 weeks earlier than planned, to finish packing and getting ready to move the middle of July.
Tyson and Braden were very sad when they heard I was going home early, but when I told them that GPa and I would be back in Utah in less than a month to live, they were pretty excited!
And I’m so looking forward to making amazing memories with our kids and grandsons here in Utah.
Because family is everything. Period.
